Rackspace’s Cloud Identity system serves millions of consumers a day. As the entry-point to Rackspace’s cloud products, new releases need to be tested to a level that is uncommon for most non-security related products. In order to provide value to our API consumers, development and operations teams worked together to create a solution whereby consumers are able to create instances of the Cloud Identity environment at will and validate their products against them. Additonally, these instances pull directly from tagged releases that allow product teams to test new functionality, long before it’s even released. Docker is the central piece to this solution, the lxc-container based technology taking the devops world by storm. Using OpenStack’s Nova component as a foundation, engineers deployed and made the solution available to Rackspace’s internal cloud product teams in record time.
